INTRO TO SOFTWARE ENGINEERING | Grades 7-12 | August 7-11 | $220

Offered the week of August 7 – 11 from 9:30 am – 12 pm for students entering grades 7 – 12, or with pre-requisite skills

This 1-week, half-day camp has two objectives:

1. Introduce students to fundamental concepts and tools used in the development of real-world software platforms, and

2. Conduct students into the beginning level of free courses offered by AWS Educate so that students can continue self-paced progress through higher levels following the camp if desired.

The first half of class will involve an introduction to a new concept or tool such as: formatting in JSON, Get/Post requests, structures of databases, and SQL for interfacing with a database within a software platform. The second part of class will involve creation of accounts and exploration of AWS (Amazon Web Services) Educate, and entry to the beginner-level courses.

Prerequisites: Students must have a personal interest in coding and software development, familiar (not expert) with Java, Python, JavaScript or another language, and with basic concepts and tools such as variables, strings and syntax schemes.

Location: Robotics And Beyond office at 46 Bridge St., Room #4. Directions –

Our door cannot be accessed from Bridge St.
Turn onto South Main St. from Bridge St. Immediately turn right into the first parking lot behind the 2 story building on the corner. Drive past that building. We are in the smaller building slightly downhill from the main parking lot. Park in the lower lot right against our building. If no spots there then park in the large upper lot along the fence. Just walk in the door of the lower building and down the hall to the end.
