Announcement of AI-related meetups – starting in January 2025
Robotics And Beyond wants to create a series of AI-related meetups for discussions of current topics in AI, for younger people and adults. It will be called Curiosity Club, named for both the Mars rover and what might be the most important gift a person can possess, especially young people. We hope to create a small community that is curious about new concepts and tools surrounding artificial intelligence and how it can be used to add to our education and abilities in ways that we never could have thought of just a year or two ago. AI truly represents a new world of opportunities that are exciting and endless.
The idea for this project is to have loosely-guided forums for sharing questions, thoughts and experiences with AI tools like Chatbots, LLM’s (large language models) in general, Google Colab, Kahnmigo, and Wolfram|Alpha Notebook. Participation can be in-person or virtual.
What is on the minds of people of different ages and backgrounds? We hope to involve broad range of interests like psychology, engineering, art, science, mathematics, nature, business and government. The project is inspired by the Vienna Circle (see Wikipedia) of the late 1800’s-early 1900’s. You can also ask OpenAI or Perplexity for the story. Meetup leaders may prepare suggestions for reading and/or viewing and glossaries ahead of meetups. A short topic would be presented for discussion, followed by general sharing of projects and any other items of interest. A projector will be available as well as laptops for anyone in need. The goal, especially for young people, is to foster a basic understanding of AI concepts and tools and cultivate mental powers like abstraction, forming queries, and analyzing information facts versus opinion.
WHO: One younger group of grades 6-12, probably on weekends, and another group for adults (anyone out of high school) on a weekday evening or weekend.
WHERE: Our space at 46 Bridge St. in New Milford
WHEN: Starting in mid-late January, One weekday evening and one weekend afternoon. Weekly or bi-weekly to start, monthly if that is what turns out best.
HOW: In-person or by Zoom or Google Meet.
MEETUP LEADERS: We also need individuals who are interested in suggesting a topic for a session and moderating a discussion.
